14-19 Drop-In Sessions

The 14-19 team are hosting two 14-19 Drop-In Sessions where parents and young people can get information, advice and guidance on 14-19 qualifications on offer in the area. The first of these sessions will be held in the Derby room at Leigh Library, in Leigh town centre on Saturday 27th March between 10am and 12 noon. The second such event will take place in Wigan town centre details to follow shortly.

Hair and Beauty Diploma -Taster day

Learners who are interested in finding out more about the Hair and Beauty Diploma can attend the Taster day which is being held on Thursdsay 11th March 2010 at the Image Centre at Wigan and Leigh College (Leigh campus). More details will be posted on this site soon.

New Diploma TV Advertising Campaign

The Diploma - TV advertising campaign

Look out for the new Diploma TV advert, aimed at teenagers and their parents, which debuts this evening in the following slots:

· 18:27 - The Simpsons on Channel 4

· 18:45 - Hollyoaks on Channel 4

· 20:45 - Coronation Street on ITV1

· 22:30 - Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 4

The advert, which will then continue for 4 weeks, features multi award-winning British music artist Kano with behind-the-scenes footage from the video shoot for his latest song "More than One Way" (hailed in December as the "hottest record in the world" by Zane Lowe on Radio 1). The ad highlights some of the 24 young people, each studying one of the ten Diploma lines of learning already being taught (including Creative & Media), who were involved in the production of the "More than One Way" video. Kano congratulates the young people for their work on different parts of the video shoot and production.

Supporting PR and website activity is timed to coincide with the main campaign. Press coverage will be sought in national, regional and specialist publications.

There will also be new content added to the Diploma website - http://yp.direct.gov.uk/diplomas/

Additional supporting website content will include film footage - the ad itself, the song track and a range of behind-the-scenes films featuring Kano and Diploma students from each line of learning.

The collaboration between Kano and the students helps to demonstrate the breadth of Diploma courses available to young people.

Diploma Event

There will be a Diploma event on Thursday 10th December 2009 at the DW Stadium in Wigan. This event will focus attention on year 9 learners and parents towards which Diplomas are offer to young people in 2010. Representatives from the current 5 Diploma lines will be there along with examples of Diploma learners work and some learners themselves who will be on call to speak to young people about their Diploma experience so far. The 4 new Diplomas on offer next year will also be represented at this event. In addition to the Diploma staff, colleagues from Connexions and Education Business Partnership (EBP) will also be on hand to help answer questions. Jim Cassidy from the 14-19 team will be showing off the on line prospectus and explaining how this can help all learners in making their options choices next year.
